The Yellow Argument was an opportunity for me to move in the complete opposite direction of my favourite critical theory, the "Death of the Author" by Rolan Barthes. The concept from mid-20th Century literary criticism; it holds that an author's intentions and biographical facts (the author's politics, religion, etc.) should hold no special weight in determining an interpretation of their writing. the theory I find to oppose that was polyphony in the works of Fyodor Dostoevsky. According to Mikhael Bakhtin, the chief characteristic of Dostoevsky's novels is "a plurality of independent and unmerged voices and consciousnesses, a genuine polyphony of fully valid voices". His major characters are, "by the very nature of his creative design, not only objects of authorial discourse but also subjects of their own directly signifying discourse." inspired by this, I was trying to employ an unreliable narrator. in this film the narrator is arguing a false and absurd argument: that colour yellow is the best colour there is. I was trying to debunk this naive and subjecting point of view to determine "Facts", or what is the meaning of "Best" anyway? is it something more than a personal taste?
