Salt water was my first experience in regard to reflecting a public memory. Before this experience, my films were mostly personal but in Salt Water, I tried to explore the brief history of my country, Iran, and show the effect of some of the disasters during the past 4 decades. From the revolution and uprising of religious fundamentalists in 1978 to war and earthquake. I used hand-drawn animation as a way to re-capture and re-create some of the harsh scenes from the past. The title comes from this saying: "The cure for everything is salt water: sweat, tears, and the sea."
